How to Become a Magician

If you crave a challenge in life then definitely pursue a career as a magician. The road ahead will be very difficult, but then again the rewards may be worth it. To secure your fame and/or fortune check out the following tips:

1. It may sound very corny, but work hard in your studies and if your grades are good enough you might get a scholarship and even earn a very hard yet highly coveted degree. Magic is a great hobby to have, however it is not an ideal career choice because the employment rates for a magician don't look very promising. Honestly, you have as good a chance to become a rich and famous magician than getting hit by lightning or winning a singing contest when you know you don't have the voice. We just want you to be aware that it isn't always a rosy career and that it's extremely difficult to succeed and make a living; so just in case it doesn't work, you should consider a fall-back career. As a historical fact, did you know that many magicians have died penniless?

2. If you get the chance when you attend high school and college, take a drama class. If you learn to act, know how magic sets are built, and know how to produce, then this will really help you building your new career. Another class that is very helpful to improve your chances is speech training. This speech training will go a long way to help you in your presentations.

Of course you will gain a major advantage if you know all the secrets in the various books of magic but in the end you will have an even better advantage if you know the secret to giving great presentations.

3. Try to re-invent yourself as a character. You should have a costume to build your character; this will help you get into the right spirit. Why? Well why does a clown wear make up and a nose? Why does a doctor wear a white coat? It is because that is what they are and this is what they do. It is their job and it helps them get in the right frame of mind and at the same time remind them of their job. Secondly, you should think of either having a stage name or not. It's your choice, a stage name can be your real name. The personality trait you have will also determine the kind of charismatic character you will be on stage. As time goes on you'll learn to like your character as he or she will become part of you.

4. The act. This is the crucial part. Begin by selecting the tricks you know. The next step is to put the pen to paper and place them in the order in which you want to perform them. It's advisable to do a trick to garner some degree of wow reaction at the beginning and as the show goes on, impress them with bigger and bigger tricks, further confounding them.

Remember: Get your audience in the right mood by doing something flashy first. They will then be more awake and receptive to your other tricks.
